Admittingly, only about 10% of my household products are considered eco-friendly. But I this is a list of 5 household items that were easy enough for me to change and helped me feel a little better about myself.

Green Household

1. Eco-Friendly Cleaning Supplies

Traditional cleaning products often contain harsh chemicals that can be harmful to both your health and the environment. Opt for eco-friendly cleaning supplies made from natural ingredients. Brands like Seventh Generation (I like their bathroom cleaner because it doesn't ruin the paint on my wood toilet seats) and Method (I like their granite counter top cleaner) offer powerful cleaning solutions without the harmful side effects. Look for biodegradable packaging and plant-based ingredients to ensure you're making a responsible choice.

2. Reusable Beeswax Wraps

Say goodbye to single-use plastic wrap and embrace reusable beeswax wraps. These wraps are made from organic cotton infused with beeswax, jojoba oil, and tree resin, making them a sustainable alternative for food storage. They can be washed and reused multiple times, reducing waste while keeping your food fresh. I tried these wraps and though they worked well but I'm sure there are others that are just as good. And if you compost (which we do not yet), then you can throw these in your bin and feel even better.

3. Bamboo Toothbrushes

Plastic toothbrushes contribute significantly to global plastic waste. Switching to a bamboo toothbrush is a simple yet impactful change you can make. Bamboo is biodegradable and sustainable, making it a much better option for your dental hygiene routine. Many brands also offer charcoal-infused bristles for added cleaning power. For me, I didn't change out my whole toothbrush because I use a Sonicare electric toothbrush. So instead, I just changed my replacement heads for now with these compatible toothbrush heads made by Pure Earth Essentials.

4. Natural Laundry Detergent

Conventional laundry detergents often contain synthetic fragrances and chemicals that can irritate the skin and pollute waterways. Look for natural laundry detergents that are free from phosphates, dyes, and artificial fragrances. Brands like Molly’s Suds and Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day provide effective cleaning power while being gentle on both your skin and the planet.

5. Refillable Water Bottles

Staying hydrated is important, but single-use plastic water bottles contribute to environmental pollution. Invest in a high-quality, refillable water bottle made from stainless steel or glass. Our family each has their own Yeti Ramblers. They're a little expensive but you'll get your money back when you bring this to the airport with you and fill it up after the TSA check, instead of paying for a high cost water bottle.

Conclusion

Making small changes in your household product choices can lead to a more sustainable and healthier lifestyle. By opting for these five everyday products, you can contribute to a cleaner environment while ensuring the safety of your family. Embrace these simple eco-friendly alternatives and feel good about the choices you make in your home!
